The island of Trikeri, in the south of Pagasitic gulf and at the tip of the Magnesia peninsula, is particularly beautiful and remains, architecturally at least, more or less unchanged since the beginning of the century. It is not much more than a mile across, and a less than a thirty minutes walk takes one across to the other side of the island. With a population of fewer than 100, it is so little known that it doesn't even get a mention in most guidebooks.

The island is free of any traffic (no roads, no cars) and transport is by foot, donkey or boat. There are plenty of olive trees, juniper, oleander and wild flowers. Its untouched bush land and crooked pathways, its numerous wildlife and the stunning sunsets provide the perfect environment to get away from it all. There are dozens of remote coves to be found around the entire coastline; Trikeri, Pithos and Ai Giannis are pebble, while Afetica, Ai GiorgisPithu and Agia Sophia are sandy and pebble. Following the coastal paths, it is possible to walk around the island in half a day.
There are very few visitors, even in the height of summer.

The island is dominated by the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, which is a 15 minutes' walk from the quay and well worth the stroll. Monastery of Panagia Faneromenis, built on the site found the miraculous image, after the dream he saw the monk Damian, Church of Saint John in 1786. It has a small 18th-century church with an arcaded courtyard of cells, and an overgrown garden of orange trees and Madonna lilies. On September 9, found on Paleo Trikeri. the annual Island Festival monastery and tired of always on 9 September celebrated. The monastery will be donated bread and oil. The festival is attended almost exclusively by Greeks, who come from the Pelion, from Volos and the Sporades (indicated by the ferries). Guests are welcome to visit at certain times of the week. The island’s only village “Agios Ioannis” has a couple of tavernas, cafe, bar and a mini market with all that you need.  Rustic and simple, the village is a pretty place where the locals are incredibly hospitable and welcome newcomers.

The location is perfect for boat lovers as you can moor up for free.  The island is within the Pagasitic gulf, so the waters are mostly exceptionally calm. The nearest point of mainland is 5 minute boat ride away. You can explore the beautiful mountains of the Pelion and visit the white sandy beaches of the Aegean on the other side. There are many interesting tours which are possible in a days drive, taking in the mountain villages.
